Where Bennetts began:
The business originally started trading in 1734 at the aptly named Irongate in Derby as a Gun & Silver Smiths, as well as an Oil & Colour Merchant.
George Bennett took charge of the business in 1864, and having a naval background expanded Irongate further, laying the premises out like a sailing ship with wrought iron stairways and nautical-style landings throughout.
Trading Since 1734
Bennetts continued to thrive and expand despite two world wars and, during the “swinging 60’s” split the business, thereby creating the Bennetts Architectural Ironmongery business. This business was initially based at Mansfield Road, Derby before moving to its current home at Stores Road Derby in 2006.
Where we are now:
In 2011, Bennetts Ironmongery became part of the family owned Newship Group of companies. Shortly after this, the Stores Road site was acquired and re-developed to create the purpose built logistics centre and administration facility that we have today.
During the last ten years Bennetts has continued to expand with the development of new markets, both here at home and overseas. The business has also grown into becoming one of the leading National Suppliers of Ironmongery and complimentary products to major and Regional Housebuilders, Contractors and Local Authorities.
Some of the largest Housebuilders in the UK including Redrow Homes, McCarthy & Stone Developments, Countryside Partnerships, Vistry Group, Bloor Homes, and most recently Bellway Homes, have all put their trust in Bennetts to service developments around the UK with National Supply Chain Agreements.
